Devices, Software, and our Digital Editions
You've bought your Rosenfeld Media books in one (or more) of our DRM-free digital formats—PDF, ePub or MOBI. Now you want to get them on your favorite device—but how? Here are some tips for the most common e-readers and software. If we've missed one, please contact us.iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch
The two most common software applications available for reading ebooks on Apple devices are iBooks and Stanza.
iBooks
Because of limitations built in by Apple, it is currently not possible to download ePubs using your iPad or iPhone and view them in iBooks. You need to use a computer to download the file and follow the instructions below.
- Make sure that iBooks is installed on your device. If not, it is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.
- Open iTunes. Make sure you have the latest version that includes "Books".
- Open the folder that contains the downloaded ePub files from Rosenfeld Media. (This may be your desktop.)
- Drag the files into the "Books" section of iTunes.
- Sync your device with your computer. Open the iBooks application, and the Rosenfeld Media titles should now appear on your bookshelf.
Stanza
Unlike iBooks, Stanza will enable you to download our books directly using only your device. In our tests, this is most practical using the iPad, but it also works with the iPhone or iPod Touch.
- Install Stanza on your device, available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.
- Click on the download link on the order confirmation page or email.
- Select the file you want to download (there may be more than one if you've ordered from us before!)
- A new browser window will open, inviting you to open the file using Stanza.
If you prefer, you can also download our books using your computer.
- Install Stanza on your device, available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.
- Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes.
- Select your device in the left navigation bar.
- Select the "Apps" tab.
- Scroll down to "File Sharing" and select Stanza.
- Click "Add..." at the bottom and navigate to the location of your downloaded Rosenfeld Media ePubs.
- Once the ePub files are added, sync your device. The files will now be available through the Stanza application.
Android Devices (Aldiko)
- Download Aldiko Book Reader to your computer from the Market (free download).
- Copy your downloaded ePub files to your SD card "/eBooks/Import/" folder.
- Sync your device. The books will now be available through the Aldiko application.
For more details on this method, see Aldiko's instructions.
Kindle
You can read either the MOBI or the PDF versions of our books on your Kindle, although the black and white screen doesn't give you the full benefit of the graphics in our books, you can always check the color versions on our Flickr site.
- Connect the Kindle to your computer. Your Kindle should appear on your computer in the same location you would normally find an external USB drive.
- Drag and drop your files (using your computer's file browser) to the "documents" folder on your Kindle.
- When finished, use your computer's undock, eject, or unmount feature to remove your Kindle.
