About the UX Book Salons

UX practitioners are a self-taught breed, often relying on books as a primary source of knowledge. But are those books serving us as best they can? Are UX books—and their publishers—providing us with the best user experience possible? To find out how our books can do better, Lou Rosenfeld will facilitate hour-long UX Book Salons every month for, well, indefinitely. Salons will be open to the public when held at UX-related conferences and events; participation may be limited when hosted by UX companies.

How it works

UX Books Salons are semi-structured show-and-tell sessions where you'll discuss UX-related books that you like, the ones you don't, how they could work better, and which ones you wish that someone would write. Bring a book or two that you'd like to discuss (by any publisher); all aspects of their design and content are fair game. Each salon lasts about an hour, and Rosenfeld Media will contribute a few copies of their own titles.

What's the point?

  1. UX practitioners ought to be more conscious and demanding of the books we rely upon every day. What better way to raise our consciousness than through lively discussion at a UX Book Salon?
  2. Rosenfeld Media has its own selfish goals: we want to learn how to produce the best-designed books, and to publish on the topics that you care about most. As a UX book publisher, we try to eat our own dogfood.

Other stuff

  • Can't discuss UX books enough? Then attend (or start) a UX Book Club in your area.
  • Want us to hold a Salon at your company? If we're in the neighborhood and there's time in the schedule, we'll do our best; just let us know.
