A book in progress by Caroline Jarrett. Publisher: Rosenfeld Media. Anticipated publication date: 2012

You haven't done surveys before, and you don't necessarily plan on doing them often (or even ever again). But right now, getting some large-sample statistical data would be useful. Or maybe a someone says "well, let's just do a survey", and you want to make sure you do a good one.

My book will help you to:

  1. Decide whether a survey is the right thing to do
  2. Choose how to go about it
  3. Be confident that you will get good, useful data

Survey seminar on 28th February 2012

All sorts of good things are happening for me in February 2012 and I hope you'll join me in some of them.

First up: I've sent off a chapter! My first draft on 'Analysis' has gone to my wonderful development editor, JoAnn Simony.

Secondly: I'm excited to be part of 'An Evening of Usability' in Malta on Tuesday February 9th 2011. It's organised by Justin Mifsud of Usability Geek and sponsored by Holistic and the University of Malta (many thanks to Justin and to Dr Alexiei Dingli and the staff at the Department of Intelligent Computing Systems at the University).

And here is the one that is probably a lot more practical than jumping on a plane:

My virtual seminar on Design tips for surveys on February 28th 2011 at 1:30pm Eastern time.

It's part of the Rosenfeld Media / User Interface Engineering series and I'm thrilled to invited.

Presentation on the survey process

A couple of days ago, I mentioned that I'd finally worked out a survey process: how to do a survey in 6 steps. It's been evolving in a series of workshops, and the most recent one was at the J.Boye Conference 2011 in Aarhus, Denmark.

Outline:
  • Improving questions (step 1)
  • The five further steps that make the difference between a set of questions and a survey
  • Some key ideas from the survey methodologists.
  • A final challenge: do you think those ideas are practical for you?
