Mental Models

Aligning design strategy with human behavior

Mental Models

Project Manager Mental Model

Once again, I am happy to release another real mental model diagram. This time it is from work done internally at Adaptive Path in late 2005. Project Manager Mental Model (169Kb PDF).

Adaptive Path not only wants to design good solutions for clients, but the team also wants to design good projects. This takes a good project manager, and what better way to start the discussion of what project management is than to create a mental model? An internal team headed by Kate Rutter and Amanda Willoughby created this mental model in 2005 and worked extensively with it to provide a framework for great project leadership. They are proud to share it with you here.

To protect the innocent, the content Adaptive Path aligned with the towers is not shown in the diagram. Also note that the "practitioner" referred to in the diagram is an Adaptive Path employee, whereas the "contractor" is a practitioner hired temporarily.
